A lifetime ago, when I was a babysitter for a wonderful family in Ireland, there was a lot of snow, an unusual event there. The children and I made this beautiful snowman in front of the window, we called him Barnaby and talked to him and looked at him until the sun disappeared him, leaving only his hat behind… The children were sad and asked me what happened to Barnaby. Children always love to ask important and difficult questions… And so, sitting on the couch, looking into their beautiful eyes, I created this story, with the sole purpose of making that sadness disappear. It wasn’t in this full version, but a general idea of what happened to Barnaby that stayed with me for a lot of years.
Some people call it faith… Others call it unknown…Children call it magic. We all think about it, dream of it. Boys find it in superheroes, girls in fairy tales. But we all need it at some point, we need to believe there is something extraordinary in this universe and in us, we like to think there is an uncontrollable circumstance that can just ignore all our laws and bring sense and shift our lives forever. “The Magic Snowman” is a Christmas story, about the power of an innocent mind and of a soul filled with hope. There is no new message in it, just a gentle reminder of love and magic. Because we ALL need some magic in our life, because magic is the strongest at Christmas time and because children always BELIEVE.
